Symbol Technologies continues its revolution
of pocketable computing with the PPT 2700+, combining
rugged mobility, bar code scanning and wireless LAN connectivity
with the new Microsoft Pocket PC platform. This pen-based
family of mobile data management devices offers companies
the opportunity to leverage the familiarity and flexibility
of the Microsoft Windows operating system in a feature-rich
pocketable computer.
Designed to meet the diverse needs of the vertical marketplace,
the PPT 2700+ family of products offers several data management
options. The PPT 2700+ provides ruggedized data collection
for batch applications, while, with its built-in link
to the open architecture of Symbol's Spectrum24 wireless
LAN, the PPT 274X Wireless Series enables up-to-the-minute
information flow between the point of activity and remote
host systems. And, addressing the growing need for PDF417-based
mobile solutions, the PPT 2700+ Series offers aggressive
two-dimensional (2D) bar code data capture capabilities.

Enabling
with Ease
Ergonomically designed, the PPT 2700+
enables convenient one-handed data capture operation and
provides a secure, comfortable fit in the hand. Users are
able to navigate the familiar Windows-based environment
by touch or pen input, and the Pocket PC platform offers
a simple interface, designed for mobile users.
A member of the XE Series of extreme environment devices,
the PPT 2700+ is sealed to IP54 standards for protection
against windblown rain and dust, and withstands multiple
drops to concrete up to 4 ft./1.2 m. With its rugged properties,
the PPT 2700+ enables the benefits of Windows and the Pocket
PC platform to perform in the most challenging environments-
extending access to critical data throughout the enterprise.
The PPT 2700+ comes with 16 MB of RAM and 12 MB of flash
ROM to meet data or program storage needs. It is fully compatible
with standard 32-bit application development tools from
Microsoft and third parties, and provides the standard PIM
software and synchronization capabilities of a Pocket PC.
An application-programming interface (API) from Symbol allows
bar code data capture and wireless communication to be easily
integrated into new or existing applications.
Flexibility with Diverse Applications
The PPT 2700+ houses Symbol's state-of-the-art
miniature scan engines-the SE 900 in the 1-D models and
the SE 2200 in the 2-D models. These scan engines deliver
premium performance with reliable, first-time-every-time
decodes even in sunlight or bright artificial light, enabling
mobile workers to capture, compute and communicate data
virtually anytime, anywhere.
The rugged, feature-rich PPT 2700+ product family extends
the reach of IT resources in a host of industries. Hospitality
service professionals can offer curbside check-in at hotels
and more efficient table service at restaurants. Warehouse
workers can easily record inventory levels, as shipments
are unloaded. Physicians and caregivers can access current
patient records anywhere in the hospital, and school administrators,
teachers and staff can retrieve and update student records
from anywhere on campus. Additionally, with its expanded
capabilities, the PPT 2700+ provides law enforcement officers
with the ability to scan 2D bar codes on vehicle registrations
and drivers' licenses for immediate data capture. And transportation
and logistics professionals can now scan bills of lading
and other documents encoded with PDF417 two-dimensional
bar codes, reducing paperwork and handling at the loading
dock.
